Nurses, Doctors & Midwives - oh my!

Only two days into the week and I have seen more than my fair share of waiting rooms! It has, however, afforded me plenty of time to finish a real live novel! It was a novel about a midwife, but a novel all the same.

Monday morning was the worst - a torturous event called an oral glucose test. For this "test" (I am not yet convinced that they are actually testing anything besides a pregnant lady's patience) you have to fast for 12-14 hours in preparation!! That is a really long time for a regular person and way longer for one cranky preggers and her starving boy. Then you go into a smelly lab clinic and have blood taken. Then drink something that at first sip kind of tastes like orange pop, but as you go on gets worse and worse. Being the only thing that you have had for hours, it makes you a bit lightheaded and weird. Then you go back out to sit with all of the other people who probably have TB and you think that you might have heard the technician saying that they should notify the ER that they are sending someone over with rubella. This does not help you to feel any better. BUT despite the fact that this gross drink was carbonated and making you gassy and nauseous, you know that you can't boke because you read that you will just have to do the whole thing over again! In an hour you get more blood taken, wait another hour and then another needle. You run screaming from the place and when you get home you resist eating a bag of cookies.

Last night we went to our second prenatal class. We had a sub-teacher and a pretty good session. We still feel like the dirty hippies in the bunch, but we are getting to know the other couples a little bit better.

Today we met with our new GP and we really like her. She has a small nice office pretty close to the house and even seems to have a sense of humour. Then we went to visit our favourite midwife. This week she has a new student who had a very hard time. Everything she tried was just a bit off...I felt a little bit sorry for her, but what can you do. Naomi was paying very close attention and correcting her "oopsies". Everything is going really well - snug continues to grow and stretch at a pace that seems to be working for him, his heart rate is strong, my blood pressure is great, etc.

Most exciting of all? We bought the paint for the baby room and hope to get started this week!!
